Looking for a pair of Altec 30166 throat

    Hello everybody,

I am looking for a pair of 30166 in good condition for my 1505B. Would someone have a pair for sale?

    Cheers,

Only suggestion I can think of is watch FeePay (eBay).

Might call GPA I don't think they make them but they may know of a set.

As I'm sure you know, cant get them unless you get lucky.

What have you been using ? Don't you have those 1505's already in service ?

They don't come up very often !

Re: Looking for a pair of Altec 30166 throat

    Dear Altec Best,

I bought the 1505B with a pair of double throat. I found a guy in France who was making copies (brass) of the 30166. They look very nice but he made a mistake drilling the holes and the driver alignment is not perfect.

I could may be find a local shop which could fill the holes with plugs and drill new holes with proper precision...

    Have a nice day !

Here is a pair. I cannot see any Altec markings so caution required.

    Thank you Mah!

I saw them but they are not genuine (made of welded steel plates).

Plugging probably wouldn't be necessary, just expensive...I would just shift (rotate the driver) and have them drill new holes between the others. You won't see it once drivers mounted. And the drivers simply don't care.

Here's the section from an Altec spec sheet, the 3 hole is this smaller bolt circle...this shows both the 3 bolt and newer 4 bolt patterns.

    Thank you Old Guy,

Good idea... I just need to build up a small tool to establish the center of this 3.25 inches circle.

If you really want it accurate, find a small machine shop. In this economy may are glad to get small jobs, and they have tools we mortals do not.

Hey Dominique, that makes sense now ! The last pair of 30166's I seen on eBay sold for over $700 US.But they were brass, the aluminum version should sell for about $200 less if you can find them.I have the double throats too,but not the singles. On a horn that big they more ofter came with the double throats in my estimation than the singles. If I come across a pair will send you a PM or a link to the sale.
